STEPS:
1. Locate and list art, cultural, and science museums in your area.
2. Allow your child to choose which museum to visit.
3. Upon entry into the museum go to the shop/store FIRST.
4. Allow the child to pick 3 to 5 postcards of museum items currently on display. (Permanent collections can be previewed on the museum’s website prior to outing)
5. Discuss treasure hunt rules, such as, being quiet, no touching, no running… giving high five when discovery is made.
6. Once museum artwork or item is located, elaborate on the information about artist/artwork in story form.
7. Allow the child to compare his/her discovered match with other artwork close-by.
8. Mail postcards to special relatives with fun comments.
9. Purchase duplicate postcards of favorite artwork to be displayed at home for review to enhance long-term memory.
10. When cards are taken down, place them in your child’s scrapbook with notation about the museum visit.
