Creating a list of family values and methods of application.
1. Call a family meeting to discuss the importance of solid core values.
2. Place a large piece of paper or a large blank poster on the table or floor.
3. Give every member of the group a pencil or marker.
4. Together brainstorm a list of values that reflect the best family unit possible.
(Examples are given in the attachment below). Younger children can trace over outlined words written by older member).
5. After the list is completed each individual selects one value from the list he/she thinks is the most important value for the week.
6. On another poster or the back of the brainstormed list write the title “Top Values For The Week”. List the chosen values in large print.
7. Post the poster in a highly visible area (den or kitchen wall).
8. Each family member writes their chosen value on seven strips of paper to be placed in a bowl on the dining table.
9. Each day for a week, every family member pulls out one strip labeled with a value. They place that strip in their pocket or backpack to carry around for the day. They act on that value or seek it in others.
10. At dinner time or during family meeting time each family member shares stories of the values witnessed during the day. A family journal can record these unique and personal family moments.
